Interview With Kiarrah Hauser

There’s not a one-size fits all method for self-care, but learning what works for you is part of the journey. A common self-care practice is skincare. Aside from bubble baths and face masks, it’s about being intentional and setting aside time you set aside to honor yourself. Your skin is your largest organ; it’s also delicate and essential to your overall wellbeing. When you’re taking care of your skin, you’re taking care of you.

Beginning your skin care journey can be overwhelming, and you may not know where to start. So we’re going back to the basics and talking to our community of estheticians so you can start building a routine for you.

What steps are essential in a daily routine?

“I believe the basics for everyday need to be a gentle cleanser, a moisturizer, and sunscreen for the day. And just a cleanser and moisturizer for night. This is very basic though and adding an exfoliating product at least twice a week and a targeting serum daily can vastly improve the skin.” - Kiarrah Hauser, owner of Gemini Suites.

How often should you exfoliate your face/body?

“Personally I think 2-3 times a week for both areas is sufficient. You can interchange between a chemical and physical exfoliator, but 2-3 times a week in total is perfect for most people.” - Kiarrah Hauser, owner of Gemini Suites.

How much is too much?

“If you’re using a cleanser with an active ingredient such as salicylic acid, you don’t want to use this everyday morning and night. This will strip your skin and cause more harm than good. Same goes for exfoliating your skin everyday. Some people with dry skin do this thinking it will help, but in the end they are stripping that natural barrier too often.” - Kiarrah Hauser, owner of Gemini Suites.

You don’t need a lot to start building a skincare regimen. With a few products and time you’ll start to see and feel the benefits of your routine.
