This post is part of an ongoing series called Fur We Love, where we focus on people's relationship to their hair and the routines they've built around haircare. We talked to William Kammler, a paralegal for the Bronx Defenders, about loving bedhead, embracing his body hair, and letting his freak flag fly.

What are some of your haircare and grooming routines for hair allover?

Well as a rule of thumb I don’t ever shampoo my hair. I get it cut every few weeks from a trusted friend who knows my hair front to back (I’ve tragically been to Astor Place Hairstyles enough times to know that you need someone that knows you to cut your hair). I trim my beard every two weeks or so and I really don’t "manscape" at all. Obviously I use Fur, especially on my chest! I’ve found that I don’t necessarily need my pubic hair to constantly feel super moisturized but it does make me feel like I’m treating myself right when I use it.

What hairstyles make you feel the most confident?

Hm. This is a hard one. I generally like messy bedhead style hair, even at work to my own detriment. For my body hair, I really love myself with little to no grooming. I’m naturally hairy and feel at my best when I embrace that. When I shave too much I feel exposed and as if I’m hiding in someone else’s skin.

What's one trick that always works for you?

I find that using cold water on my hair allows it to be less hay-like and easier to manage. I also avoid washing it with hot water because it gets itchy immediately!

How has your relationship to your hair changed over time?

Well, I’ve never ever felt embarrassed about my body hair. I have always loved my hair and considered it one of my best qualities. I feel lucky to have thick wavy hair that always tends to do what I want it to do. I’ve always secretly wanted curly, curly hair so here’s hoping I’ll age mysteriously.

What's one hair or grooming style you had to try but are happy to have left behind?

I’m so happy to see the Macklemore-esque, shaved sides, long at the top look fade back away into history (even if I’m guilty for trying it once or twice circa 2012...)

Do you have a hair icon / someone in your life you look to for inspiration?

Marge Simpson!

The Simpsons

What do you love the most about your hair? This can be your head or body hair!

I like the way in which I can use my head and body hair to inform people about who I am or what I stand for before we even really engage. I am a firm believer in finding the beauty in the natural. I will ten times out of ten pick someone with less conventional looks who runs towards their own features, head and body hair. I think letting your freak flag fly and being true to what/who you are is the coolest thing someone can do.
